The Batavia Park District, named a 2025 Chicago Tribune Top Workplace, is seeking a skilled and motivated Horticulturist to help enhance the beauty and health of its parks and facilities.
Position Summary
The Horticulturist is responsible for the design, planting, maintenance, and overall care of landscaped areas throughout the District, including flower beds, shrubs, planters, and greenhouse operations.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan, design, install, and maintain landscaped areas across parks and facilities
- Manage plant health, including weed, disease, fungus, and pest control
- Oversee District greenhouse operations (annuals and perennials)
- Perform general landscape and park maintenance year-round
- Operate vehicles, equipment, and small power tools
- Assist with GIS tree and amenity management
- Support special events, ballfield preparation, snow/inclement weather response, and emergency call-outs
- Lead landscape and special projects with minimal supervision
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in horticulture or related field, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience designing and installing plant beds
- Ability to obtain Illinois Applicator’s License within one year
- Valid Illinois Driver’s License
- Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills
Work Environment
- Outdoor, physically demanding role with exposure to all weather conditions
- Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs., standing, bending, and use of ladders
Schedule & Compensation
- Full-Time, Non-Exempt, On-Site

Hours:
- April–October: 6:30 AM – 2:30 PM
- November–March: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Occasional evenings, weekends, and on-call duties as required
- Pay Range: $25.29 – $27.69 per hour (DOQ)
