Park Ranger

Enforces rules, regulations, and ordinances on district property. Patrols area to ensure safety and protection of the public, employees, and agency property. Prepares and submits reports regarding incidents, accidents, equipment and facilities. May provide security detail for programs as needed. This position does not have any police authority. Rather, this position will report park misuse to police and involve local law enforcement agencies as necessary.

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Monitor and supervise park district facility rentals, activities, special events, parks, and facilities.
  •  Provide courteous, professional and prompt customer service to the public, park district staff, and law enforcement that aligns with park district standards.
  •  Provide protection for patrons while maintaining a high form of visibility in buildings and parks. 
  •  Direct traffic for special events and or emergency situations. 
  •  Administer first aid to injured persons and request medical attention as required.
  •  Patrol an assigned area in the Park Ambassador vehicle or on foot.
  •  Maintain a daily activity log.
  •  Prepare proper and accurate reports and deliver documents as directed. 
  •  Adhere to proper dress code and maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times. 
  •  Interact with the public and educate them on the Bensenville Park District Code of Conduct. 
  •  Provide security for programs and special events as needed. 
  •  Assist in equipment inspections to maintain safety standards.
  •  Observe and follow all park district safety policies and regulations and report hazardous situations. 
  •  Ability to work weekends and evenings.
  •  Other duties as assigned by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 21 years of age. 
  •  Read, write, and speak with sufficient proficiency to communicate effectively in person, over radios, and through written reports. 
  •  Previous law enforcement experience preferred. 
  •  Valid driver's license and ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  •  Ability to work with minimal supervision to accomplish work as assigned in a timely manner. 
  •  Ability to prepare written reports containing sufficient legibility and clarity. 
  •  Possess basic knowledge of security and public safety procedures.   
  •  Ability to maintain composure and self-control under adverse conditions.
  •  Ability to react quickly in emergency situations.
  •  Respond to radio calls or telephone instructions and appear at the scenes of disorder in a timely manner and assist law enforcement properly when assistance is requested. 
  •  Observe and report conditions conductive to crime which might endanger public safety and report conditions presenting danger or inconveniencing patrons. 
  •  Possession of, or ability to obtain, First Aid, CPR, and AED certification with three (3) months of hire. 
  •  Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.

SALARY $22.50/hr.
HOURS Monday through Sunday, 5-10 hours per week November through April, 10-20 hours per week May through October. Hours will include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
